Laboratory information system · In production · 8 years

LabSIS

The system that runs day-to-day laboratory work, from sample registration to the electronically signed report.

In a central laboratory the work starts when a sample comes through the door and ends when the customer receives a signed report. In between sit barcodes, an analysis queue, instrument results, calculations, checks, pricing, invoicing and signature. If any of those drops into a spreadsheet, the trail is lost.

LabSIS keeps that chain in one system, and has been in continuous production for eight years. For a system that old, the real work is not adding features but carrying the old ones forward intact — a PHP version migration, a change of signing infrastructure, a refreshed set of accreditation templates.

Why it exists

Off-the-shelf LIMS products are either very expensive or a poor fit for accreditation and electronic signature practice in Turkey. The accreditation wording on a report template, the height of a signature box, whether cancelled samples are excluded from a count — these are the details an auditor asks about, and they cannot be changed inside a closed product.

What it does

Sample registration & barcoding

Registering a sample, barcoding it, and routing it to the analyses it needs.

Analysis workflow

Assignment to an analyst, result entry, checking and approval — every step attributed.

Report generation

Result tables that vary by analysis family, in accredited and non-accredited templates.

Electronic signature

Signing reports with a qualified electronic signature, a signing queue, and reminders for reports awaiting signature.

Report verification

A QR code on accredited reports so a third party can verify a report’s authenticity independently.

Quotations & invoicing

Quotations, customer accounts, invoicing, and statements.

Customer portal

A separate interface where customers see their own samples, reports, and account balance.

Support & complaints

A record-and-resolution flow that satisfies the complaints clause of ISO 17025.

Dashboards

Daily indicators such as pending work, signature queue, and accredited report counts.

Under the hood

PHP 8.1MariaDBTCPDF
  • Migrated from PHP 7.4 to 8.1, with every break worked through individually.
  • Reports are produced server-side; the accredited template embeds a QR verification link.
  • A separate desktop signing utility handles the qualified electronic signature.
  • Nightly backups plus a separate disaster-recovery copy, with backup integrity verified by hash.
  • A separate test environment kept in daily sync with production data.
